The two most iconic supernatural serial murderers of film face off to see who is indeed the best at stabbing (metaphorically speaking; obviously both Freddy Kreuger and Jason Voorhees are more creative about how they murder innocents than just that).

Freddy has lost his dreamscape powers – nobody believes in him anymore. So he suckers that Voorhees knucklehead to do some teenage culling and snakes the credit. Local teens get on to the situation and set both of the murderous monsters lose in a last-man-standing cage match in Jason’s dream land.

Freddy vs. Jason is actually impressive: it’s fun and looks good. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, but seriously enough to be enjoyable. It’s the perfect amount of camp. You’re laughing with Freddy vs. Jason, not at it, which is more than can be said about a lot of both parent franchises. So, the acting is just below professional quality, the effects are gratuitous but realistic and the story is ridiculous but unique and engaging. What more could you want from a slasher?

Recommended for: A group of friends who enjoy a good bet and don’t know the outcome of the film.

The two most iconic super-terrestrial monsters of film face off to see which monster eats humans best (metaphorically speaking; obviously neither the xenomorph nor the predator much care for the taste of human flesh).

It’s hunting season (well, obviously, but a very specific hunting season) for a group of Predators and some unwilling humans get into the mix: explorers come across an old Predator temple and awaken a xenomorph queen. It’s a battle royal between all three species, while the earth folks just try to survive (and, when it comes to body count, are bad at it).

2000s over-the-top action at its finest. While the film puts Ridley Scott’s franchise to shame simply by falling into obvious and horrible action and monster tropes, that doesn’t mean you can’t have a good time with it! It feels more like a Predator movie than an Alien movie. Lots of different creatures being really violent and also getting killed in violent ways. If that’s your thing, go see Alien vs. Predator at your earliest convenience.

Recommended for: Anyone who wants to see those smug Predators get their comeuppance. (same for xenomorphs [same for humans]).
